Although we’ve been apart since March, our Spectrum community has continued to use the creative arts as a way to stay connected. We have been so impressed with the resilience and creativity we’ve seen in our students with this transition, and thought this was a perfect time to renew our popular “Student Spotlight” series! Each week, we’ll be highlighting a Spectrum Creative Arts student and sharing a snippet of their current work.
This week we are sharing a mini-musical from our creative drama class, Screen & Script. This virtual musical theatre class is a way for our actors and musicians to work together on a creative project. Each mini-musical contains lines for every performer, an original featured song, and a choreographed dance. The mini-musical is composed by a class participant, a drama student at Spectrum, or a small group collaboration. The class only has one week to prepare the musical before recording live the following week.
This summer each script is a creative interpretation of “creating characters from inanimate objects”. Josh Cobb, created “The Singing Competition”, bringing life to the various foods found in your refrigerator and freezer. “I am so impressed with ideas and stories our creative writers are coming up with” says director Wade Richards. “Working virtually has provided a way for us to problem-solve and persevere together as team. More importantly, we are having a blast working together and enjoying the chance to laugh and make music again”.
Screen & Script will be offered again this Fall virtually on Thursdays from 4:00-4:45pm. Reserved your spot soon!
