About the Class

Explore the art of photography in a fun, hands-on environment! This introductory class invites students to experiment with capturing the world around them while learning the basics of photography. Each week will feature a different creative theme—such as landscape photography, black-and-white imagery, portraiture, and more—giving students the chance to try new techniques and discover their unique visual style.

Students will learn foundational photography concepts like composition, lighting, perspective, and storytelling through images while practicing with real-world photo activities. The focus is on creativity, exploration, and building confidence behind the camera rather than technical perfection.

Participants are welcome to use either a smartphone or a digital camera. Participants may use a film camera if they prefer, but please note that Spectrum does not have the expertise or facilities to handle or develop film. No prior photography experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to experiment!
